What is Story Completion?

Whether literary genres such as stories, tales and poems are read to children, told to them or presented to them through a medium, children want to show their reactions to the work. And they do this naturally. While showing their reactions, they show their experiences in different ways. As educators, we or parents can implement various activities to ensure children’s participation in the story they choose.

Story completion activity is one of the activities that develop our children’s thinking skills, help them produce original ideas and increase their problem-solving skills. It is possible to increase our children’s school skills by doing such activities from an early age.

First of all, stories should be chosen that are suitable for the age group they are being taught . These stories should not contain words or expressions that are difficult for children to understand. Stories should be complete and consist of introduction, development and conclusion sections.

Story Completion Event;

  • Finding the title of the story,
  • Finding the conclusion of the story,
  • Completing the story by cutting off the development part,
  • It consists of 4 parts, including creating the full story.

We can apply these types of activities, which are very important for language development and support creativity and social intelligence, to our children starting from the age of 3 at home and in preschool-primary school periods.
